Prague Arbitration Day 2026: How Can Expedited Arbitration Work Effectively?

As a proud partner of this year’s Prague Arbitration Day, organized by the International Chamber of Commerce Czech Republic (ICC Czech Republic) and held on 23 April, we had the opportunity to engage in inspiring discussions with leading arbitration experts on how geopolitical developments and technological advancements are shaping dispute resolution.

One of the key highlights of the programme was the participation of our partner Jan Kadrnožka in Panel 3, titled Making Expedited Arbitration Work: Experiences and Best Practices. During the panel, he shared his practical perspective on the use of Expedited Procedure Provisions (EPP), rules designed to enable faster arbitration proceedings.

EPP Is Not Just About Speed

The main takeaway from the discussion was clear: EPP is not only about speed. The real challenge lies in correctly identifying when this procedure truly delivers greater efficiency—and when it merely compresses the same volume of work into a shorter period of time.

Achieving real savings in both time and costs requires experience, sound judgment, and often courage when deciding on the most appropriate procedural approach. Expedited arbitration is not automatically the best solution for every dispute.

The Value of the Dispute vs. Its Complexity

The panel also addressed broader questions in contemporary arbitration practice. For example, whether the value of a dispute reliably reflects its complexity, how strict time limits align with the parties’ right to due process, and how limiting party influence over tribunal composition could affect the legitimacy of arbitration proceedings.

Another important topic was the growing expectation placed on tribunals, which are increasingly expected to take a proactive approach to case management and procedural efficiency.

An Inspiring Gathering of Experts

A big thank you goes to the organizers and all panelists for the insightful discussions we enjoyed not only during the panels themselves, but also during informal meetings over coffee breaks and the evening networking programme.

The event was also attended by other representatives of our firm: partner Petr Vošahlík and senior attorney Dominik Liška.

Prague Arbitration Day 2026 once again confirmed that arbitration remains a dynamic and rapidly evolving field, where it is essential to respond not only to legal developments, but also to technological changes and geopolitical factors that increasingly shape international business relations.
